Public Speaking & Interpersonal Communications (8th-12th)

Fall Semester: Public Speaking Fundamentals

The first semester of this dynamic class is designed to get students comfortable up in front of others in a variety of public speaking situations and formats.  Students will learn to organize their ideas and thoughts and add research to back up their ideas. Students will learn to write their own speeches, and gain confidence speaking in front of a group to prepare for the workplace, family and social situations.   The students will learn tactics to ease speech fright, become better listeners all while presenting five or more different types of speeches in a comfortable and nurturing environment.  This class is Apologetics based and will enhance each student’s knowledge of what they believe and why and speak about it with others.

Spring Semester: Interpersonal Communications

This second semester class is designed for students to gain many of life’s communication skills necessary for navigating a successful life.  Students will learn improved abilities in communicating one-on-one and small group settings.  Students will learn how to communicate in social, school and personal situations.  The students will learn how to navigate conflict and improve their relationships and learn to react appropriately.  Some of the concepts the students will learn are: how to solve problems, how to listen better, how to apologize correctly, what their love languages are, how to forgive others, using “you” language verses “I” language, perception checking,  how non-verbals affect communication, how to interview, John Gottman and Shanti Feldhan’s main research principles, how to speak with tact and how to handle emotions when communicating and finally how not respond defensively. The students will learn about themselves which will enable them to interact, communicate and express their ideas and opinions more effectively with others.
