Chemistry Grades: 9th-12 grades, Algebra is a prerequisite for the class The design of creation is wonderful from the large world we see around us all the way down to the chemical level. In this class, we will explore the incredible order that exists at the most basic atomic level and gain an even greater appreciation for our Creator. The class is taught with a secular textbook but from a Christian worldview. This is a high school level class, and, while the subject matter is not easy, I honestly believe that it is possible for anyone to be successful in my class who is willing to put in the effort. I am available weekly to answer questions before and after class and via email. I also offer a free tutoring session every Thursday in the cafe from 1:45-3:15. This class will reinforce important skills which are necessary to be successful in the upper grades such as note taking, studying for quizzes and tests, and critical thinking to apply the tools learned. At the same time, I come from a homeschool perspective and the end goal is learning over a perfect grade. With that in mind, I give ample opportunities to retake quizzes and tests. Every student will be able to master the class concepts, grow as a student, and build a foundation to continue on in the sciences. Homework: Approximately 3-4 hours per week of assignments to reinforce the concepts learned in class (about an hour for each school day at home). Labs will be done in class as well as independently by the student at home. Cost: $490/ Semester Coursework: This is a year long course that covers all the major general chemistry concepts including: Matter and Change The Periodic Table Chemical Bonding Atomic Theory Stoichiometry States of Matter Chemical Equations and Reactions Solutions, Acids and Bases Oxidation-Reduction Reactions Gas Laws Nuclear Chemistry Textbook: Introductory Chemistry: A Foundation 9th Edition (Zumdahl / DeCoste)

Bio: I graduated from Biola University with a degree in science but my love for chemistry goes back to high school when my favorite teacher made my chemistry class the one I most looked forward to in my day. I have really enjoyed teaching again these past three years and I hope to have taught in a way that brings satisfaction to my students as they see how far they’ve come from the beginning of the year. I honestly believe that high school chemistry is possible for anyone to be successful in and I will be available each week to answer questions as they come up.
