Description

Literature
Using the first three books of C.S. Lewis’s Narnia collection (and other books with related themes), the literature lessons focus on both a study of C.S. Lewis’s masterful writing style as well as his Biblical parallels and life lessons. Students will read and write about the following books:

C.S. Lewis: Master Storyteller by Goeff Benge
The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis
Animal Farmby George Orwell
The Lion the Witch, and the Wardrobeby C.S. Lewis

The Boy in Striped Pajamas by John Boyne

The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis

Writing

Writing lessons review the basics of IEW and then continue into more sophisticated models of structure and elements of style. Students will write stories, reports, research papers, narrative and descriptive essays, response to literature essays, comparison essays, persuasive essays, and poems.

Grammar

Some grammar will be taught in the context of using it, but a grammar text is recommended for use at home.

Vocabulary

Students will also be required to learn and use vocabulary words taken from their reading.

Tuition: $250 per semester ($35 material fee as well, due at registration)

Lori Verstegen is an IEW Accomplished Instructor. This is the highest level of certification possible through the Institute for Excellence in Writing. She is also the author of many of IEW’s Theme-Based Writing Lessons.

Lori homeschooled her own four boys for 24 years. Since 1996 she has been giving IEW instruction to hundreds of other children. Lori's philosophy of education is two-fold: first, all true wisdom comes from the Lord, so teaching must honor Him. Second, learning should be fun and instructions clear so that students enjoy the process of learning and succeed in their assignments. Lori lives in San Juan Capistrano, CA, with her husband, John, who pastors a small Bible church.
