English 9 - Literary Analysis (Bricker) (9th grade)

English 9

This course is designed for 9th grade. The class objective is to teach techniques that will help students write clearly and effectively through interaction with classic literature. Students will be learning a variety of literary strategies that they see throughout the literature. They will then be incorporating these strategies into their own writing.

We will cover important skills such as:

• Brainstorming and organizing

• Effectively editing and revising

• Writing for various styles/prompts (Narrative, Informative, Argumentative, Research paper)

• Critical thinking in group discussion

• Analyzing classic literature and poetry

• Oral presentations

The literature for the class is still being finalized, but may include titles such as To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, and The Lord of the Flies by William Golding. A full list of titles will be posted soon.

Welcome to English 9 with Mrs. Bricker! I am thrilled to be teaching an English 9 class because of my love for literature. I have been guiding students in their writing for the past three years, after graduating from The Master’s University with a degree in Christian Education. I spent two years as a classroom English teacher, and the past year as a private tutor as my husband Ryan and I welcomed our firstborn, Jack!
