Description

Fun Facts & Memorization

Grades: 3-6

Course Description:

“Fun Facts” uses songs, games, and activities to help students memorize facts and concepts that they will need in their elementary years and beyond.

Each week we will learn a new catechism question/answer (from the New City Catechism), as well as a new song that will introduce a set of facts. During the remainder of the class we will review songs, play games, discuss content, and do activities that reinforce what’s being learned and memorized. Each class culminates in a snack and quiet activity as we listen to the class playlist — followed by a raffle prize winner (tickets are earned by doing homework and learning the facts).

A new addition to this class: To encourage at-home memorization, students will be tested each month on the chosen list of the month (for example: labeling a US map, reciting the books of the Bible, labeling the planets, listing the presidents, filling out a portion of the periodic table, etc.).

For homework, students will be required to review songs, memorize a catechism answer, and spend 20 minutes on a learning app that will help them memorize and label states, countries, and presidents. You will not need to purchase any curriculum outside of these apps.

This class and the younger Fun Facts class have very little overlap. Thus students are welcome to take both or take only one class without taking the other.
