Description

Futures Trading and Risk Management

Grades: 9-12

Course Description:
This course on Futures Trading and Risk Management is a transformative year-long
journey into the dynamic world of futures trading. This introductory course looks beyond
traditional financial education, immersing students in the captivating realm of investing
and risk management with a profound impact on both financial acumen and everyday
decision-making. We will utilize futures trading as a dynamic platform for exploration.
Beyond the typical focus on financial gains, this course takes a unique approach by
integrating the principles of investing and risk management into the fabric of our daily
lives. Students will not only gain a deep understanding of the intricacies of futures
trading but will also learn to apply these principles to make informed decisions in
various aspects of life.

The course will focus on day trading utilizing price action in a live simulation
environment (Real money will not be utilized, and any gains or losses will be purely for
learning purposes only). We will delve into key facets of day trading futures, navigating
the complexities of trading psychology, mastering chart setups, crafting effective
strategies, honing position sizing skills, achieving consistency, and implementing robust
risk management practices.
Given the ever-evolving nature of the futures market, this course is designed to be a
perennial learning experience that is meant to be repeated. Each year, students can
expect to receive new topics while mastering the ones they have learned. This iterative
approach not only keeps the content relevant but also empowers students to build a
strong foundation that seamlessly transitions from a simulation account to a live trading
environment.

The class will be split 50:50 between didactic learning and actively trading in class.

Bio: Bobby Chien started his investing odyssey in high school more than 25 years ago
when he was exposed to investing through his economics class. He recognized a
critical gap in financial education for the younger generation when his daughter entered
high school. Witnessing the lack of resources dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of
investing and financial markets, he became committed to filling this void. His dedication
extends beyond mere financial theory, emphasizing the integration of these essential
principles into our daily lives, unraveling the profound impact they can have on our
financial well-being.
Bobby’s expertise extends to the dynamic world of futures trading, where he stands as a
funded prop firm trader, utilizing external capital. Through his experience in navigating
the intricacies of futures trading, Bobby looks to guide others on their own financial
journeys and pitfalls to avoid.
Bobby holds a Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree from the University of California San
Francisco and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology, Immunology, and
Molecular Genetics from the University of California Los Angeles. He utilizes his strong
background in research and data analytics in the financial markets, and has been
