Grammar

 

Grades: 5th & 6th; 4th grade if student has prior grammar knowledge, contact teacher if interested.

 

Learning grammar can be fun! This class will cover all parts of speech, sentence types, verb types, independent and dependent clauses, phrases and even touch on verbals if time allows.  Each week we will spend the first portion of class learning a new grammar concept and diagramming sentences using Get Smart Grammar from Grammar Revolution. I will incorporate songs and visuals to help students memorize these concepts. Diagramming will help them visualize sentence structure and see how words are related. During the second half of our class time we will use Fix It! Grammar level 3 (student and teacher combo set) from IEW, which you can purchase online.  This approach will have students to hunt for and correct errors in passages from a story.  Homework will be assigned and should not take more than 45min - 1hr. to complete.  Parents will check work at home.

Katie is homeschool mom of four awesome kids ages 12-19.  She has been in the homeschool world from the time her oldest was preschool age and although it's not always an easy path she and her family have found it to be fruitful and a blessing.   A teacher by training, she is excited to be in the classroom fostering a love of learning the English language.  She is humbled to walk alongside other parents on this homeschool journey and is grateful to be a part of the PC Prep community.
