Intro to Biblical Counseling Grades: 10th-12th Course Description: Bolster and equip your student to live out the reality that we do not need to be intimidated by the burdens of life, because God has given us hope and answers to every life circumstance! Foundations for Biblical Discipleship is authored by ACBC (Association of Certified Biblical Counselors)’s Executive Director, Dale Johnson, and his amazing team: “It is designed to firmly root you in the ‘foundational’ doctrines and principles of the Bible, and then show you how these truths should shape our everyday responses to everyday issues. This curriculum is about how to live - and how to encourage others to live - in light of who God is and what He has told us in His Word.” – T. Dale Johnson Semester 1 covers the doctrinal foundations that biblical counseling is built on. You will learn to biblically understand such topics as the relevancy and inerrancy of the Bible, the grace of God, the church, mankind, sin, suffering, salvation, and the goal of biblical counseling. You will also learn how to biblically view emotions, life-dominating sins, suicide, eating disorders, and more. Semester 2 covers true stories, case studies, and role-playing that include: HOMEWORK: Students can expect ~3 hrs of independent work throughout the week consisting of: Reviewing notes on lectures and training Required reading (~1-2 ch/wk – student may listen to the book on audio if preferred) Learn to minister the Bible (not simply “dispense” it!) Writing prompts (~5 prompts/wk) Final Presentation In-person meetings will feature class discussions of required reading and lectures, peer interaction, learning how to minister relevant passages, reviewing and role-playing case studies, Q&A’s, etc. Textbook, workbooks, or materials needed for class: Not included in course and should be purchased independently: Bible (ESV) – app on phone will suffice, if need be, but your tangible Bible is best for taking notes in directly! 1st Semester: A Theology of Biblical Counseling by Heath Lambert 1st Semester: Counseling One Another by Paul Tautges 2nd Semester: Counseling the Hard Cases by Heath Lambert and Stuart Scott 2nd Semester: When People Are Big and God Is Small by Edward Welch Exploring the Gospel by Mike Fabarez (I will provide a copy to your student) Cost Per Semester: $230 Payment Methods: Venmo: @laundryladystacy Zelle: (714) 397-5797 Check made out to: Stacy Petersen Email: [email protected] Bio: Stacy received her B.S. in Child and Adolescent Studies from CSUF.
