Literature Circles

Grades 3rd-4th

Literature Circle is an engaging class designed for a third or fourth grade reader.  In this Literature Circle class my goal is to help your child fall in love with literature. Students will be exposed to various genres of literature. Together we will explore various skills and strategies to form a better understanding of what is being read. Literature circle is a place for students to come together in a comfortable environment and discuss their thoughts and observations through weekly creative and fun activities.  

Students will have many opportunities to present in front of their peers, debate, write reflections, make predictions and share their ideas. They will be challenged to analyze literature in new ways.

We will dive deep into character analysis, key comprehension skills, vocabulary, theme, and learning about the Author. Students will also learn how to annotate. I am committed to helping students develop as strong fluent readers all while having FUN together! 

* Novels will change each year so students can take this class as a Third grader and then again as a fourth grader. 

*** Each week I will send home lesson plans in order to continue the novel study and discussions at home.

Cost: $250

Materials: Parents will purchase the books we will read.  The reading list will be communicated via email.

Bio:

Jamie Cornish lives in Mission Viejo with her Husband and 4 children. She has 3 daughters and one son. They are all very active in their church through various ministries! 

Jamie attended UCSD and has a Bachelor’s degree in History and a Minor in Education. She went on the receive her Multiple Subject Teaching credential from Cal State Fullerton University and went right into full time teaching.

She has taught various grade levels over the years, from preschool to 6th grade. She taught 5th grade for 3 years at Aliso Viejo Christian School. Jamie took a break from education to raise her four small children. During this time she continued to substitute teach and homeschool her own children. She went back to the classroom 3 years ago teaching in hybrid education. She also has experience in tutoring all elementary subjects. 

Jamie has a love and passion for teaching young students. She knew from a young age that she wanted to become a teacher and feels blessed to be living it out each day.    When she is not teaching, she enjoys watching her children play sports, time with her family at the beach, going on adventures and exercising.
