Course Description: We will uncover the rich treasures of American History.
Students will examine events, people and debates that have molded the United
States. They will learn about the challenges facing the new nation, with an
emphasis on the causes, course, and consequences of the Civil War. They make
connections between the rise of industrialization and contemporary social and
economic conditions. Building on the foundation of Joy Hakim’s award-winning
series A History of US, students will enjoy reading history through excellent
storytelling. This is a two-semester course. Work given to complete at home will
range anywhere between 2-3 hours.

Bio: Julia Hsu lives in Laguna Niguel with her husband, two children and their
beloved dog, Maple. She received her bachelor’s degree from UC Irvine, a
Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from UC Irvine, and a master's degree in
Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University. She has taught various
grade levels ranging from kindergarten to 8th grade. She has worked in both
public and private school settings and is a homeschool mom herself. Her passion
has always been teaching in the classroom and creating a hands-on environment
for learning.
