Description

World Literature

Grade: 10th

Course Description:

This course in World Literature will give a broad overview of the literature of European and non-Western countries, the eras that gave rise to the literature, and the ways in which cultural contexts influence our interpretations of literature. Differing worldviews

will be viewed from a Christian perspective, utilizing complete works such as The Iliad,  The Book of Esther, Oedipus Rex, The Tempest, and The Metamorphosis. These studies  will be supplemented with a rich selection of short stories, nonfiction, and poetry from  the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Renaissance Europe, and Latin America.

Homework is expected to take three hours a week. Students will write narrative,  analytical, and expository essays, as well as working on technical writing, and creative projects. To further develop communication skills, students will be asked to give oral presentations and participate in formal discussions each quarter.

Now that her children are grown, she continues to be passionate about the  opportunities that homeschooling brings to meet each student’s individual needs and  capabilities. Her goal is to inspire a love of learning, and to help young believers  become effective communicators. Whether the subject is Shakespeare or Roman  history, she loves helping students build confidence in their own ability to find  connections between their studies, their faith, and their world.
