Apologia Earth Science (3rd-5th)

Class Title: Apologia Earth Science

Grades:3^rd – 5^th

Using the Apologia text, “Exploring Creation with Earth Science" your student will embark on a year-long study of our home planet. This course also overlaps many other areas of study such as Astronomy, Chemistry, Biology and Geography. The first semester will cover the observable universe, the solar system, types of galaxies, the sun, seasons, the geosphere, the hydrosphere, the atmosphere, the biosphere, mapping the globe, longitude and latitude, continents and tectonic plates, igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks, and soil types. Second semester will cover geographical landforms, phases of water, the water cycle, air pressure, temperature, humidity, climate versus weather, climate zones, types of clouds, weather tools and forecasting, biomes, ecosystems, and the rock and mineral cycles. Lastly, the final chapter of the text is a worldwide tour of some of the most unique and fascinating locations on earth.  Each week our class-time will include a lab or project to reinforce learning.

A detailed syllabus will be provided at the start of the course. Typical weekly homework is about 30-45 minutes per week to complete both the reading assignment and notebook pages. This is a comprehensive full science course for the year.This also gives you work samples should you need them for your PSP or charter. This class does not accept charter funds due to the Christian content, but the majority of work samples can be submitted to a charter for science samples. This is a comprehensive full science course for the year.

Textbook/Materials needed:Please purchase the textbook (ISBN #978-1-946506-72-6) and only one copy per family is needed. DO NOT purchase the accompanying Apologia Notebooking Journal. I have created custom lab and homework books to go along with the textbook. These student books are included in the class materials fee.

Class Max: 18 students

Cost of Class (per semester): $330 ($270 class fee + $60 materials fee) per semester. This fee includes all lab or project materials and student notebook.

A $100 non-refundable deposit will be due by June 1, which is applied to first semester. I offer multiple payment plans for the balance: lump sum payment for the balance of $230 at the start of the semester, split into 2 installments of $115 each, as well as 4 monthly payments of $57.50.

Bio: Tiffany Haugland completed her education at the University of California Irvine with a BS in Biological Science and continued her education at UCI’s Department of Education. Since 1999, she has been a homeschool mother and has taught courses for various private school programs, learning centers, and co-op groups. Over the last 25 years Tiffany has taught thousands of homeschool students and she finds great joy in working hand in hand with parents to develop the best fit for their students. The greatest goal is to inspire students to love learning, because it opens their eyes to the design and awe of God’s creation. Tiffany is a mother to 7 children ranging in ages 8-28, grandmother to 2 granddaughters.
