Aviation Science & Careers
Grades: 5th - 12th
During the Fall Semester, students will study aerodynamics, engines, airspace, airport operations, aviation weather, and more. The syllabus is taken from Coach Nash's military flight training manuals.
Your teacher, Todd Nash, has an extensive aviation background. Todd has 1000 hours of flight time in the F/A-18D in the Marine Corps, 3 years running airfields, hundreds of hours in small civilian aircraft, and has run 30 airshows all over the world as an aerial event controller and airshow director. He will bring this experience to your students to give them a familiarity with the science and mechanics of aviation. There will be 3 field trips: flying radio control airplanes, shooting Estes rockets, and a tour if the March AFB museum.
In the Spring Semester, Todd will teach Aviation Careers, giving students an overview of the many career fields in aviation. Air traffic control, aircraft maintenance, aerospace engineering, airport operations, military pilot careers, civilian pilot careers, and much more will be discussed. There will be several optional field trips including an aircraft maintenance school, airport operations, air traffic control, and a discovery flight in a small plane with a certified flight instructor.
