British Literature
Grade: 12th
Course Description:
This course gives an overview of British Literature, covering seven periods: Old English,
Medieval, Renaissance, Neoclassical, Romantic, Victorian, and Modern/Postmodern
eras. Each unit will include full novel studies including Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the
Green Knight, several of Shakespeare’s works, Jane Eyre, and The Screwtape Letters.
These will be supplemented with additional fiction and nonfiction selections.
Weekly assignments will help students develop proficiency in expressing ideas through
writing, discussion, and presentation. Formal writing assignments include narratives,
persuasive essays, compare/contrast essays, creative writing projects, and a final
research paper. Students are expected to complete approximately three hours of home
assignments each week, with age-appropriate reading and responses.
Cost Per Semester:
$300. No supply fees. Parents are responsible for purchase of books listed on syllabus.
Not eligible for charter funding.

Bio:
Carrie Lucas has spent over fifteen years as a homeschooling mom and high school
teacher. Now that her children are grown, she continues to be passionate about the
opportunities that homeschooling brings to meet each student’s individual needs and
capabilities. Her goal is to inspire a love of learning, and to help young believers
become effective communicators. Whether the subject is Shakespeare or Roman
history, she loves helping students build confidence in their own ability to find
connections between their studies, their faith, and their world.
