Creative Writing & Poetry (5th-8th)

Title of Class: Creative Writing
Grades: 5-8

Course Description: Do your kids struggle with writing? If so, this is a great class for
them to discover the joys of writing! We will learn the tools needed for creative writing
such as outlining a story’s plot, describing a setting, developing characters, writing
powerful beginnings and endings, incorporating dialogue, understanding point of view,
and practicing various types of poetry style and techniques. 
Not only will your students learn these techniques, but they will get to practice them in
fun and engaging assignments such as a humorous script, a novella, a speech, a
memoir, a personal essay, and different types of poems.  
This class will teach students not only to produce creative pieces of literature but also to
appreciate them as we use beloved short stories, poems, and songs to aid our learning!
