Class Title: IEW Discoveries in Writing
Grades: 3-5
Course Description: IEW is a writing program that provides a comprehensive, systematic
approach for developing great writers. Your student will become fully capable of extracting their
ideas, organizing their thoughts, and presenting their results clearly and competently. The IEW
method is similar to methods one might use to teach music, art, or even sports. Students practice
both narrative and non-fiction writing while learning the structure and style of good writing. As this
program is meant to be taught multiple years, each year there will be a new theme-based book. This
year we are using Discoveries in Writing which includes historical and scientific stories as well as
fables and biographies. It is appropriate for first time IEW students as well as those continuing in
the program.
Materials: Students will need the Discoveries in Writing student book.
