Description

Class Title: Apologia Swimming Creatures

Grades: 3rd – 5th

From the microscopic to the massive, no stone is left unturned in your student’s passage through the  waters of the world. Each week we will complete an experiment or project reinforcing the scientific  method and the concepts studied. As well as these weekly projects and experiments, we will have  occasional dissection days in class as well. First semester we will dissect a frog, fish and a shark. Second semester dissections include a crayfish, clam, squid, and sea star.

The units include: ocean anatomy, habitats, plankton, toothed whales, baleen whales, sirenians (manatees and dugongs), pinnipeds (sea lions, seals, and walruses), all fish groups, sharks and rays, sea turtles, sea snakes, extinct aquatic animals, crustaceans (lobsters, crabs, shrimp), mollusks (clams, mussels, sea snails, sea slugs), cephalopods (octopus, squid, and cuttlefish), cnidarians (jellyfish, anemones, and coral), echinoderms (sea stars, urchins, and sand dollars), and porifera (sea sponges).

Typical weekly homework is about 30-45 minutes per week to complete both the reading assignment  and notebook pages. This is a comprehensive full science course for the year. This also gives you work  samples should you need them. This class does not accept charter funds due to the Christian content,

but the majority of work samples can be submitted to a charter for science samples. This is a  comprehensive full science course for the year.

Textbook/Materials needed: Please purchase the textbook (ISBN #9781946506979) and only one  copy per family is needed. DO NOT purchase the accompanying Apologia Notebooking Journal. I  have created custom lab and homework books to go along with the textbook. These student books  are included in the class materials fee.

Class Max: 18 students

Cost of Class (per semester): $360 ($285 class fee + $75 materials fee) per semester. This fee  includes all lab or project materials and student notebook.

A $100 non-refundable deposit will be due by June 1, which is applied to first semester. I offer  multiple payment plans for the balance: lump sum payment for the balance of $260 at the start of the  semester, split into 2 installments of $130 each, OR as 4 monthly payments of $65 each.
