Class Title: Apologia Chemistry and Physics Grades: 5th- 6th Course Description: God created the sciences of Chemistry and Physics to make everything around us operate as it does. Using the Apologia text, Exploring Creation with Chemistry and Physics, your student will embark on a year-long study of how God put the world together and made it work. Chemistry and Physics are the studies of matter and energy. We will learn about volume, mass, density, buoyancy, the states of matter, atoms, chemical compounds, polymers, crystals, acids and bases, mixtures, the Laws of Motion, gravity, friction, adhesion and cohesion in the first semester. The second semester will cover the concepts of kinetic and potential energy, fossil fuels and renewable energy, sound, light, the Laws of Thermodynamics, combustion, electricity, circuits, magnetism, and simple machines. This vast array of scientific concepts will come to life through hands-on experiments and projects each week. A detailed syllabus will be provided at the start of the course. Typical weekly homework is about 1 hour per week to complete both the reading assignment and notebook pages. Every 5-6 weeks we will take an in-class vocabulary quiz so additional study time will be needed for the quiz on those weeks. These Chemistry and Physics topics are very abstract to most students, especially when learning them for the first time, so completing the homework reading and questions each week is critical to your student grasping these concepts. This is a comprehensive full science course for the year. Textbook/Materials needed: Please purchase the textbook ONLY, Exploring Creation with Chemistry and Physics (ISBN #9781935495987) and just one copy per family is needed. DO NOT purchase the Apologia Notebooking Journal. I have created custom lab and homework books to go along with the textbook. These student books are included in the class materials fee. Class Max: 18 students Cost of Class (per semester): $360 ($285 class fee + $75 materials fee) per semester. This fee includes all lab or project materials and student notebooks for each semester. A $100 non-refundable deposit will be due by June 1, which is applied to first semester. I offer multiple payment plans for the balance: lump sum payment for the balance of $260 at the start of the semester, split into 2 installments of $130 each, OR as 4 monthly payments of $65 each.
