Description

Class Title: Christian Heroes & Hymns

Grades: K-2nd

Course Description: This course is a combined study on Christian Heroes and Hymns. Your child will learn about real-life Christian heroes such as; Nate Saint, David Livingstone, Gladys Aylward, John Bunyan, and Charles Spurgeon. They will also explore the truths behind the hymn and the lives of writers such as; Anne Steele, Henry Williams Baker, Charles Wesley, John Newton, Stuart Townend, and many more. We will incorporate a variety of ways to learn; including new vocabulary words, geography, practice penmanship of the chorus, and hands-on activities pertaining to the hero/author of the hymn. Expect your children to learn about the blessings and suffering of the heroes. Through every hero or hymn we learn it is like making a new friend!

There are no prerequisites to this class, just willing hearts to learn. You do not even need to have a musical bone in your body! Each month there will be a new hymn added to a playlist such as Spotify/YouTube so you can play the songs at home with your children. You will soon be surprised to find yourself and them humming the tune or even singing a word or two!

We use resources such as; Heroes for Young Readers by Ywam Publishing and Happy Hymnody Hymn Studies.

If your child has taken this course there will be a new set of heroes and hymn writers. Content will be new.

Bio: Frances lives in Mission Viejo with her husband Tim and two boys named Ezra and Isaiah. It has been a blessing and privilege being part of the homeschool community here at PC Prep. She graduated from California Baptist University with a degree in Sociology, Social Work. She started out her career as a Social Worker but moved along to several other professions. Frances did social work in halfway houses, taught as a preschool teacher, worked as a nurse in pediatrics for over 10 years, and coordinated events in the wedding planning industry. What she is most passionate about is serving in the church and fulfilling all that God has called her to do as a wife, mother, and sister in Christ (Titus 2:3-5). She values the importance of teaching children gospel truths through learning about these great Christian heroes and hymn writers. She began hymn studies with her children when they were 3 years old and it has been sweet as she has seen the hymns and stories inspire her own kids. It is her prayer that as the next generation learns about these real-life heroes, they will be encouraged to trust in the Lord and live out their faith. A few things she loves to do; hiking with her boys, playing board games, beating her kids in Nintendo, reading, podcasts, collecting old hymns, thrifting, making sourdough, and good conversations over coffee or tea. Frances is grateful to be part of this homeschool community and hopes to bring much glory to God when teaching your little ones.
