Description

Class Title:  Creative Writing

 

Grades:  5-8

 

Course Description:
Do your kids struggle with writing? If so, this is a great class for them to discover the joys of writing in a fun and productive environment! We will learn the tools needed for creative writing such as outlining a story’s plot, describing a setting, developing characters, writing powerful beginnings and endings, incorporating dialogue, understanding point of view, and practicing various types of poetry styles and techniques. 

They will practice these techniques in engaging assignments such as a humorous script, a novella, a speech, a memoir, a personal essay, and different types of poems. 

We will also read and analyze famous short stories and learn about famous poets in order to gain inspiration!

Bio: Jane graduated from UCLA with a degree in English and continued on there to
receive her teaching credential and Masters degree in Education. She spent ten years teaching English at a public middle school in Los Angeles Unified School District.  After having her first child, she resigned from the classroom. When her last child was grade-school age, she went back to formal teaching in various homeschool settings and has been doing so for the past eight years.
 
She is happily married to her husband Jason, who serves as a pastor at a local church. Aside from teaching, she enjoys heading up the women's ministry at church, being involved in the lives of women of all ages, and spending time with her family which consists of one adult child, one child in college, two children in high school, and one dog at home.
