English 7: Narnia Based Writing and Literature
Instructor: Lori Verstegen
Writing lessons review the basics of the IEW method then continue into more sophisticated
models of structure and elements of style. Students will write stories, reports, research papers,
narrative and descriptive essays, response to literature essays, comparison essays, persuasive
essays, and poems.
Literature lessons use the first three books of C.S. Lewis’s Narnia collection as well other books
with related themes. They focus on both a study of C.S. Lewis’s masterful writing style as well
as Biblical parallels and life lessons. Students will read and write about the following books:
C.S. Lewis: Master Storyteller by Goeff Benge
The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis
Animal Farm by George Orwell
The Lion the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
The Boy in Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis
Tuition: $250 per semester, payable via Venmo (Lori-Verstegen) or check to LMV Arts and
Writing (May be broken into monthly payments)
Material Fee: There is a $35 material fee at the beginning of the year that covers the cost of the
textbook

wisdom comes from the Lord, so teaching must honor Him. Second, learning should be fun and
instructions clear so that students enjoy the process of learning and succeed in their assignments.
