Title of Class: Grammar

Grades: 5th & 6th

Course Description: 

Learning grammar can be fun! This class will cover all parts of speech, sentence types, verb types, independent and dependent clauses, phrases and even touch on verbals if time allows. Each week we will spend the first portion of class learning a new grammar concept and diagramming sentences using Get Smart Grammar from Grammar Revolution. I will incorporate songs and visuals to help students memorize these concepts. Diagramming will help them visualize sentence structure and see how words are related. During the second half of our class time, we will use Fix It! Grammar level 2 (student and teacher combo set) from IEW. This approach will have students hunt for and correct errors in passages from a story.  Homework will be assigned and should not take more than 45min - 1hr. to complete.  Parents will check students' homework each week.

Cost Per Semester:  

$250 per semester (includes the cost of the Get Smart Grammar printable curriculum, which I will provide each semester)

First time grammar students - Fix It! Grammar Book Level 2 student/teacher combo $29. Second year students - Fix It! Grammar Book Level 3 student/teacher combo $29.

Bio:

Katie is a veteran homeschool mother of four children, ranging from age 14 to 21. Having navigated the journey from the early years through two successful high school graduations, she understands both the challenges and the immense rewards of home education. A teacher by training, Katie is excited to be in the classroom fostering a love of learning and critical thinking. She is humbled to walk alongside other parents, encouraging them on their homeschool journey and she is grateful to be a part of this community.
