Grades: 1st-3rd
Course Description: Children are naturally curious about how their bodies work. Human Body is a course designed to explore that curiosity and help children understand the main body systems and organs that make their bodies work the way God created them. This introductory science class for young learners focuses on God’s amazing creation - mankind.
The first semester will focus on cells, DNA, the skeletal system, the muscular system, the digestive system, nutrition and health, and the respiratory system. The second semester will cover the circulatory system, the nervous system, the senses, skin, hair and nails, the immune system, human development, and a brief introduction to genetics.
We will complete a lab and/or project to reinforce an important concept related to each body organ or system. In addition to the labs and projects completed in class, students will complete 1–2 pages per week in the student book to reinforce what they have learned.
This class uses a custom curriculum adapted from science teacher Tiffany Haugland, as well as the textbook Answers in Genesis (Gods Design for Science: Human Body), with a Christian worldview and a focus on the wonder of creation. The material is curated to be well suited for younger learners. Textbook purchase is NOT necessary since a custom student book will be provided for each student.
The course materials fee includes all class materials, including the student book. Every eight weeks, your student will move on to the next book provided. The student book must be brought to class each week and is crucial for participation in class activities.
Weekly homework will include 1–2 pages of reinforcement activities in the student book. These reinforcement pages are intended to solidify the concepts covered in class and serve as a helpful connection for parents to see what topics were studied each week. They also provide work samples should you need them for your PSP or charter.
This class does not accept charter funds due to its Christian content. It is designed to be a comprehensive, full-year science course.
My hope is that by the end of this course, the students will be in awe of how God has intricately woven their bodies together (Psalm 139:13–16). I trust they will be excited to share a fun fact or two that they learn each week with you! May learning about their bodies help them catch a glimpse of our wonderful Creator and, in turn, steward their bodies well.

Bio: Frances lives in Mission Viejo with her husband, Tim, and their two boys, Ezra and Isaiah. It has been a blessing and a privilege to be part of the homeschool community at PC Prep. She graduated from California Baptist University with a degree in Sociology and Social Work. She began her career as a social worker and later worked in several other professions. Frances has served in halfway houses, taught as a preschool teacher, worked as a pediatric nurse for over 10 years, and coordinated events in the wedding planning industry. What she is most passionate about is serving in the church and faithfully fulfilling what God has called her to do as a wife, mother, and sister in Christ (Titus 2:3–5). Her prayer for this class is that students would stand in awe of how God has intricately woven their bodies together (Psalm 139:13–16). May learning about their bodies give them glimpses of our amazing Creator and help them steward their bodies well. A few things she loves to do include hiking with her boys, playing board games, beating her kids at Nintendo, reading, listening to podcasts, collecting old hymns, thrifting, making sourdough, and enjoying good conversations over coffee or tea. Frances is grateful to be part of this homeschool community and hopes to bring glory to God as she teaches your little ones.
