Description

Class Title: Little House Prairie Life

Grades: 3-6

Course Description:  Step back in time to the pioneer days of Laura Ingalls Wilder in this hands-on, project-based class that brings history, faith, and practical skills together. Each week, students will experience pioneer life through engaging projects, cooking activities, group challenges, creative building, games, and interactive discussion designed to make learning meaningful and memorable.

Alongside our projects, we intentionally connect what we are doing to biblical truth and character development. Through Scripture memory, short devotions, and weekly challenges, students will grow in qualities modeled by the Ingalls family such as diligence, gratitude, kindness, perseverance, teamwork, and generosity. Our goal is not only to learn about history, but to consider how these values shape our own everyday choices.

Students will read Little House in the Big WoodsFarmer BoyLittle House on the Prairie, and On the Banks of Plum Creek as a backdrop for the hands-on experiences we explore together in class.

Bio:

I believe learning works best when it’s flexible, engaging, full of discovery, and built around the needs of real families. I’ve been married for 34 years to my 8th grade heartthrob, and together we’ve raised two wonderful children. My professional experience includes teaching in private schools, serving in administration, and developing curriculum and teacher training programs. I’ve also worked as an Educational Coach and Homeschool Teacher through a charter school, supporting families as they navigate their own homeschool paths. These days, I stay actively involved by helping guide the homeschooling of my 7 grandkids and by launching a preschool co-op that encourages early learning through play and community. I value the freedom homeschooling offers to integrate literature, hands-on projects, faith, and everyday life into a meaningful and personal educational journey.
