Public Speaking & Poetry (3rd-6th)

Title of Class: Public Speaking Through Presentations & Poetry

 

Grades: 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th

 

Course Description: 

This class will focus on public speaking.  The first and third quarters will be fun, simple presentations of the students choosing.  A general topic will be given, such as...share about a family vacation, a school project they are doing, a skill they are learning, hobbies, retelling a parable, science nature journal, art portfolios, a sports trophy and so on.  They will be excited about the topic, and I will help them learn the skills to successfully share in front of the class.  The second quarter will be spent using poetry to build on the same presentation skills and brush up on some literary devices.  The last quarter of the year will be spent working through some general communication skills for daily life.  The goal will be to get them in front of the class every other week, if not weekly.  The more they are in front of others, the more comfortable they will become.  They will need to prepare for their presentations at home and practice their poems but homework should be minimal and fun.

Bio:

Brittanie is a homeschool mom of 3 kids, ages 11-16. She graduated from college with the intent to teach in public school, while her own children attended public school, but God had better plans for her as he geared her heart to teaching her own children instead, and has done so since the beginning. She loves teaching at PCPrep,  and is so grateful to get to know more students and families, and be a part of this amazing community.
