Class Title: Applied Health & Medical Science Grades: 9-12 Course Description: Applied Health Science & Medical Careers is a year-long, hands‑on health science course designed for high school students, no prerequisite required. This course integrates practical anatomy and physiology with real‑world health literacy, first aid skills, wellness education, and exposure to medical careers. Unlike a traditional, lab‑based Anatomy & Physiology course, this class emphasizes how the human body functions in everyday life, how to recognize common health concerns and emergencies, and how lifestyle choices impact long‑term health. Students will explore major body systems through an applied and clinical lens, focusing on symptom recognition, basic health assessment, injury prevention, and decision‑making (home care vs. medical care vs. emergency care). Lessons are interactive using mediated class discussions, anecdotal stories, videos, and real-world scenarios, making complex medical concepts accessible and relevant. We will close the year with guest speakers from several different careers in the medical field to hopefully motivate and direct students to turn their passions into a profession. This class will offer an optional CPR certification course through the American Red Cross on a Saturday morning lasting two hours at the Laguna Niguel YMCA. Five Units: General First Aid, CPR & Emergency Preparedness Anatomy & Physiology Crash Course - Body Systems Personal Health, Nutrition & Lifestyle Homeopathy, Natural Healing, Home Remedies Health & Medical Careers - Guest Speakers Cost of Class (per semester): $350 + $50 materials + OPTIONAL $80 CPR/AED/First Aid Certification through American Red Cross Payment Info: Venmo @morganmccutcheon or Zelle 949-648-0644 Contact Info: morganmccutcheon8@gmail. Bio: I am a follower of Christ, wife, and homeschooling mother of two little ones. For the past 8 years I have been a Registered Nurse and worked in a number of different specialties – Intensive Care, Emergency, and Gastroenterology. I have also taught fundamentals of nursing clinicals at West Coast University. I now stay home full-time with my kids but feel so blessed by the opportunity to channel all my knowledge and passion for this field into a class here at PC Prep. It was my formative high school years where God really awakened my passion for the medical field and directed me toward becoming a nurse. God made our bodies so intricately and it is our job to learn them and to steward them well, and to help others do the same. My hope and prayer is that my class not only equips young people with knowledge to care for themselves well, but also lays the foundations for these students to go out into the world and be humble servants for Christ in the field of medicine.
